The Onboarding Process at Merkur – Part 2

As you observed in Part 1, at Merkur, the onboarding process is taken very seriously. Indeed, it is a source of great pride for us as it truly contributes to establishing a positive employee experience right from the first “hello!”

In the first part, we explained in detail how the morning of our onboarding day unfolds. In this second part, you guessed it… we will cover what comes next!

After having lunch together, it’s time for our new employee to meet with their supervisor. The process is built like a house; we establish the foundations first. So, once the basics are well explained, it’s time to get down to business. The meeting, lasting at least 2 hours, is when things come to fruition. The supervisor provides a comprehensive overview of all aspects surrounding the employee’s role: the department’s structure, work teams, internal nomenclature, key resources, and of course, the mandate.

After an information-rich meeting, it’s time to take a moment to settle in. At this point, we encourage our new Merkurians to review our employee guide, our internal communication tools, and documentation related to their mandates. This part of the onboarding is more flexible and is usually guided by the supervisor. We encourage our employees to take this time to familiarize themselves with their workspaces.

Of course, the day ends with clear directives for what comes next. Our employees are supported throughout their onboarding process.

But the process doesn’t end there. Indeed, meetings are already scheduled for the coming days, even weeks. There will be a meeting with the finance department to get acquainted with the payroll systems. And don’t forget the meeting with the HR team to address any questions about group insurance and the RRSP program.

The major step in onboarding an employee at Merkur is completed with our Merkur Passports… Curious to know what that entails? Stay tuned as a full article on this will be coming soon!

“My onboarding experience was very positive. I was surprised when I received a detailed integration plan. In 37 years of professional life, it was the first time. My second surprise was seeing that my computer was ready, with all my access, upon my arrival. Once again, it was the first time it was so simple! The integration plan involves all departments and is truly comprehensive. It allows us to understand well what we can offer to our clients as well as the company’s strategic direction. It’s very interesting. To conclude, I would add that everyone at Merkur is really pleasant, open, and eager to help, which makes the process very effective!” Joel Lebofsky, Strategic Buyer.

“After a month, I am very happy to have joined the wonderful and large Merkur team. The friendly welcome and the collaborative spirit of my colleagues greatly facilitate my first steps in the company. I am pleased to learn more each day about the exciting ongoing and upcoming projects. The IT environment and its professional support perfectly match our daily reality. The HR support, the initial meetings with the different teams, and the ‘Merkur Passport’ presentations allow me to quickly discover the importance of the human factor in the company, a major asset. Thank you to everyone.” Bruno Cordellier, Marketing and Communications Advisor.
